KAL has been created in 2008 and is located in Paris (HQ) and the Grenoble areas in France. KAL employs 55 engineers and additional 25 in its joint laboratory with the CEA (French committee for atomic energy). KAL is run by Joël Monnier the former VP ST Microelectronics. The aim of the company is to develop a high performance, many core processor called MPPA®. The product release is planned for the fourth quarter of 2011 in 28 nm technology. The proprietary technology – including processor core – includes a portfolio of 45 patents.
